How does your scan compare to 3T MRIs?
The answer depends on the purpose of the scan. For whole-body MRI screening, a 1.5T scanner is actually preferred over a 3T scanner. While a 3T MRI can provide greater detail for targeted studies such as brain or knee imaging, it performs less effectively for whole-body scans. This is due to wavelength interference and imaging artifacts, which become more pronounced at higher field strengths. In addition, a 3T MRI increases body temperature approximately four times more than a 1.5T MRI—a factor known as Specific Absorption Rate (SAR)—which limits the number of images that can be safely acquired during a whole-body study. For these reasons, 1.5T MRI scanners are optimal for comprehensive whole-body imaging, while 3T scanners are best suited for focused, single-region evaluations.
