MRI Eligibility

Can I get an MRI if I have a pacemaker?

Unfortunately, we are unable to perform MRI scans on individuals with pacemakers at this time. The strong magnetic fields generated during MRI can interfere with the device’s function and pose a serious safety risk.

Can I have an MRI if I have a cochlear implant?

It depends on the type of cochlear implant you have. Before your appointment, we will ask you to provide details about your specific implant so we can verify whether it is MRI-compatible and safe for scanning.Please note that even when an MRI is considered safe, the presence of a cochlear implant may affect image quality, particularly for imaging of the head or surrounding areas.

Can I have an MRI if I have a prosthetic implant?

There are many types of prosthetic implants, and we will need specific information about yours before the scan. The good news is that most modern implants are MRI-safe. However, depending on the material and location of the implant, it may affect the quality of images obtained from the surrounding tissues.

Can I have an MRI if I have an IUD?

Yes. Most intrauterine devices (IUDs) are MRI-safe, including common types such as the Mirena and Copper T. As part of our safety protocol, we verify the MRI compatibility of all devices prior to scanning to ensure patient safety.

Can I have an MRI if I have an implantable infusion pump?

It depends on the specific model of the infusion pump. Some models are MRI-compatible, while others are not. Prior to your appointment, we will ask you to provide the exact model number of your pump so that we can verify its MRI safety status and determine whether it is safe for you to undergo the scan.

Can I have an MRI if I have an implanted neurostimulator?

It depends on the specific model of the neurostimulator. Some models are MRI-compatible and can be placed into a special “MRI mode” before the scan. Prior to your appointment, we will ask you to provide the model information so we can verify its MRI safety status and ensure the scan can be performed safely.

Can I have an MRI if I have an intracranial aneurysm clip?

It depends on the type of clip that has been implanted. MRI can be performed safely in patients with non-ferromagnetic aneurysm clips. Before your scan, we will need to review the specific details or documentation for your clip to confirm its MRI safety status.

Can I have an MRI if I have epilepsy?

Yes. Patients with epilepsy can safely undergo MRI scans. However, additional precautions will be taken to ensure your safety and comfort during the procedure. Please inform our staff in advance if you have a history of epilepsy so that appropriate measures can be implemented.

Can I have an MRI if I have fillings or gold teeth?

Yes. Dental fillings and gold teeth are completely safe for MRI scans and do not pose a risk to your health or the imaging process.

Can I have an MRI if I have tattoos?

Yes. People with tattoos can be safely scanned. In rare cases, mild warming may occur in the tattooed area, so please inform our staff before your scan.

Is it safe to have an MRI if I’ve worked in the metal industry?

If there is a possibility that metal fragments may be present in your body—especially in or near the eyes—we will need to perform a screening X-ray to confirm it is safe to proceed. Please contact us one to two weeks before your scan so we can arrange this in advance.

MRI Scan

Are EverVita scans invasive?

No. There are no needles, injections, or contrast agents required.

Are Evervita scans performed in open or standing MRI machines?

No. Evervita scans are conducted using closed, wide-bore MRI machines, not open or standing MRI systems. This allows for higher image quality and more comprehensive whole-body imaging.

Are there size or weight restrictions for doing a MRI scan?

Our open bore MRI systems can accommodate patients with a maximum table weight of 550 pounds. The bore opening measures 70 centimeters in diameter, and patients must measure less than 70 centimeters at their widest point, including any necessary medical equipment or accessories.Please note that for individuals taller than 5 feet 9 inches (175 centimeters), ankles may not be visible within the imaging field.

Can EverVita replace mammograms for breast cancer screening?

No. Mammography remains the gold standard. Our whole-body MRI includes the breasts but does not replace dedicated breast imaging.

Can I book an appointment for someone else?

Yes, you can schedule an appointment on behalf of another person. However, we’ll need their contact details so we can reach out to collect their patient history and confirm that the scan is appropriate for them.

Can I customize my lab tests?

No. The lab panel is standardized to ensure every patient receives consistent, comprehensive insights.

Can I do an MRI if I am pregnant (or think I might be pregnant)?

To date, no harmful effects have been demonstrated from undergoing an MRI while pregnant. However, there are potential risks, including increased amniotic fluid temperature and possible hearing effects on the fetus caused by the loud acoustic noise generated during imaging.For these reasons, we generally avoid performing screening MRIs during pregnancy unless the examination is medically necessary and approved by your physician.

Can I move during the MRI scan?

We’ll make sure you’re comfortable to help minimize movement. While moving is safe, it can reduce image quality and affect the accuracy of your results.

Can a Evervita scan replace a recommended targeted screening test?

No. The Evervita scan is not a substitute for clinical, guideline-based screening practices used to detect specific types of cancer or other health conditions. It should be considered a complementary tool, not a replacement for standard medical evaluations or physician-recommended diagnostic tests.

Can you detect Alzheimer's disease?

Alzheimer’s is primarily diagnosed through clinical evaluation, not imaging alone. However, MRI can help identify patterns of brain atrophy, such as tissue loss in the temporal lobes, that are associated with the disease.Serial brain MRIs can also be used to track changes in brain volume over time, serving as a potential biomarker for early detection or disease progression.Our Comprehensive Evervita Scan includes an advanced brain MRI series for precise volumetric assessment. If you are concerned about Alzheimer’s, we recommend also completing a clinical cognitive assessment with your physician.

Do EverVita scans involve contrast dye?

No. Our MRI protocols are designed to deliver diagnostic-quality results without the use of IV contrast.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

In the U.S., no referral is needed.

Do I need to prepare before my scan?

Yes. Please fast for at least four hours before both your scan and your lab draw. Hydration is encouraged for smoother lab testing.

Do I still need a colonoscopy if I have an EverVita scan?

Yes. Colonoscopy is still the most effective screening for colon cancer. EverVita scans provide complementary information but are not a substitute.

Does your MRI use ionizing-radiation?

No. All MRIs are radiation-free.

How does your scan compare to 3T MRIs?

The answer depends on the purpose of the scan. For whole-body MRI screening, a 1.5T scanner is actually preferred over a 3T scanner.While a 3T MRI can provide greater detail for targeted studies such as brain or knee imaging, it performs less effectively for whole-body scans. This is due to wavelength interference and imaging artifacts, which become more pronounced at higher field strengths.In addition, a 3T MRI increases body temperature approximately four times more than a 1.5T MRI—a factor known as Specific Absorption Rate (SAR)—which limits the number of images that can be safely acquired during a whole-body study.For these reasons, 1.5T MRI scanners are optimal for comprehensive whole-body imaging, while 3T scanners are best suited for focused, single-region evaluations.

How long does the scan take?

A comprehensive full-body MRI typically lasts about 35–55 minutes.

How should I dress for the scan?

There is no specific clothing requirement for your scan. You will be provided with a comfortable set of medical scrubs to wear during the procedure, and you may keep your underwear on throughout the scan.

Is it possible to have a bathroom break during the scan?

Usually not, as the scan’s accuracy relies on you staying in the same position throughout. If it’s an emergency, we’ll stop the scan, but we recommend limiting fluids beforehand for comfort.

Is it safe to have an MRI with dental implants?

Yes, it is safe, but we recommend that you bring your implant card with you so our technician can verify the materials used and ensure everything is MRI-compatible.

Is the EverVita scan safe?

Yes. MRI uses magnetic fields and radio waves instead of radiation, making it a safe imaging option.

Is there an age requirement?

Yes. Patients must be at least 18 years old to undergo an EverVita scan.

Is there anything I shouldn't bring into the MRI room?

Yes. Please remove all metal and electronic items—including jewelry, keys, phones, and watches—as they can interfere with the scan. A secure area is provided to store your valuables.

What technology makes EverVita different?

Our multiparametric Whole-Body MRI protocol was developed specifically for preventive screening and interpreted by radiologists trained in full-body imaging.

Why should I choose MRI for preventive health?

MRI provides comprehensive imaging without radiation, offering higher diagnostic accuracy for soft-tissue conditions than many other modalities.

Will I feel anything during the scan?

No. MRI is painless. You’ll hear some sounds from the machine, but otherwise the process is comfortable and safe.

At the Clinic

Are there any restrictions on what I can drink on the day of the scan?

Yes. You may drink water, tea, or black coffee before your scan. Depending on the type of scan, you may be in the MRI machine for up to 75 minutes, so we recommend using the restroom beforehand to ensure comfort during the procedure.

Can I eat on the day of the scan?

We recommend fasting for at least 4 hours before your scan. This helps ensure the clearest possible images of your stomach, bowel, and gallbladder during the MRI.

How far in advance can I book?

You can check and confirm available dates instantly through our booking platform.

How long do I have to wait for an appointment?

Most patients can be scheduled within 1–2 weeks. Our booking portal shows real-time availability.

I forgot to fast and ate something before my scan. Is that a problem?

No need to worry—it is perfectly safe to proceed with your scan. However, depending on how much you ate and when, the images of your stomach, bowel, and gallbladder may be slightly less clear than if you had fasted.

What if I’m claustrophobic during my scan?

If you’re concerned, speak with your doctor about a mild sedative beforehand. We can also shorten scan time if needed, but deposits are non-refundable if the scan cannot be completed.

Insurance

Can I use my FSA/HSA?

Yes. You may use your FSA or HSA card to pay directly, or you can submit your receipt for reimbursement through your FSA or HSA provider.

Is the Evervita scan covered by extended insurance?

At this time, the Evervita scan is generally not covered by extended insurance plans. Some patients have successfully received partial reimbursement, but this remains uncommon.We are actively engaging with insurance providers to increase awareness of the benefits of comprehensive whole-body MRI screening, though coverage changes are not expected in the short term.

Is the Evervita scan covered by health insurance?

Not at this time. The Evervita scan represents the next generation of preventative whole-body MRI screening, and while early research supports its clinical value, no public healthcare systems currently offer whole-body MRI for general screening purposes.It may take several years for insurance providers to include preventative whole-body MRI in standard coverage. However, some patients have obtained full or partial reimbursement through their private or extended insurance plans. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm potential coverage or reimbursement options.

Do you accept credit card payments?

Yes, we accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

Do you accept personal checks or cash?

No, we do not accept cash or personal checks as a form of payment.

Do you charge tax on scans?

No. We do not add tax to the cost of your scan.

Do you offer financing for EverVita scans?

Yes. We offer third-party financing through Affirm. This allows you to spread the cost of your scan into manageable monthly payments.

Is a deposit required?

Yes. We collect payment upfront to reserve your scan date and time.

Is the Evervita scan tax-deductible?

In most cases, medical expenditures such as the Evervita scan may be tax-deductible. However, eligibility can vary based on your location and individual tax circumstances. We recommend consulting your tax advisor for the most current and accurate information regarding deductions in your region.

Is the deposit refundable?

Yes, if canceled within 24 hours of your appointment. After that, it is non-refundable.

What payment methods do you accept?

Are EverVita reports FDA-cleared?

Yes. Both the Body Composition Report and Brain Volume Report have FDA clearance, and all laboratory tests are commercially validated.

Does your clinic provide referrals to specialists or doctors?

Not directly. However, we’re happy to collaborate with your current healthcare providers and work with your doctor to ensure you receive proper follow-up care.

Does your clinic retain or store copies of my scans?

Yes. We store all scans securely in compliance with federal and state (or provincial) medical record regulations.Retaining your scans provides important clinical value, as it allows our team to compare future follow-up scans with your baseline images and accurately assess any changes that may occur over time.

How do I receive my results?

Your results will be shared in our app (or secure patient portal) and via email. You’ll receive the reports that correspond to the scans you elected.

How do I schedule a consultation, and what can I expect?

Once your scan results are ready, our team will contact you by text or phone to schedule your consultation. You can choose a phone or video call, and you’ll receive confirmation and reminders by text and email. For video consults, simply click the link in your reminder—no setup or account creation is needed.

How do you create population comparisons?

We use large, anonymized datasets of MRI scans to generate percentile-based comparisons by age, sex, height, and other metrics, helping you see how your results align with peers.

How does your company handle and protect patient information?

How long does it take to receive my radiology report?

You’ll usually receive your report within 5 business days, though timing may vary slightly. For Enhanced Screening, please allow 3–4 weeks for completion.

What does an Evervita report include?

Your Evervita report is a comprehensive medical document designed for your physician. It provides a detailed review of every major organ and body system, highlighting any abnormal findings detected during the scan. The report is presented in a standard medical format familiar to healthcare professionals.

What happens if something concerning shows up in my results?

A nurse practitioner will contact you to discuss the findings, outline next steps, and guide you toward any further imaging, lab testing, or specialist care you may need.

Are these body composition tools FDA-cleared?

Yes. The EverVita Body Composition Report is FDA-cleared and backed by clinical validation.

Does EverVita provide body composition scans?

Yes. The whole-body DEXA scan is available when booked with a whole-body MRI under the Enhanced Screening package.

How accurate are DEXA scans?

DEXA is considered the gold standard for measuring body composition using medical-grade technology. At Evervita, we perform daily quality assurance testing on all scanners to ensure accuracy within ±0.5% before each client scan.

How do you compare my results to others?

We analyze your data against a large population database, adjusted for age, sex, and height, so you can see how you rank among your peers.

How long does a DEXA scan take?

A DEXA scan appointment typically takes less than 15 minutes, with the scan itself lasting about 6–11 minutes. Completing your intake form in advance will help speed up the process.

How often should I get a DEXA scan?

Frequency depends on your goals. For fitness tracking or body composition, scans every 3–6 months provide useful progress insights. For bone density monitoring, your provider may recommend a 12–24 month interval.

Is a DEXA scan safe?

Yes. DEXA scans use a very low level of radiation, significantly lower than that of a standard chest X-ray. The procedure is FDA-approved, non-invasive, and considered safe for routine use.

What is a DEXA scan?

A DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) scan is a quick, non-invasive test that uses low-dose X-ray technology to measure body composition, including fat mass, lean muscle mass, and bone density. It is the medical gold standard for precise and reliable body analysis.

What makes EverVita’s body composition report different?

Currently, our full body composition reporting is performed using DEXA scans, which are highly accurate for measuring bone density, muscle mass, and fat distribution. While MRI can also be used for body composition, that feature is not yet available at EverVita. For now, DEXA remains our trusted standard for delivering precise body composition insights.

What should I wear for my DEXA scan?

Wear comfortable clothing without metal, such as zippers, buttons, or underwire. Metal can interfere with the accuracy of the scan. You may be asked to remove jewelry or accessories before the procedure.

CT Scan

Does EverVita use IV contrast?

If you choose to get a Coronary CT Angiography (CCTA), then a contrast injection is required. All other CT scans at EverVita do not require IV contrast.

Does a Low-Dose CT (LDCT) scan at EverVita expose me to radiation?

LDCT is a low-dose computed tomography scan that uses significantly less radiation than a standard CT scan, making it safer for repeated use and particularly effective for targeted screenings such as lung cancer detection.

Does the Evervita LDCT scan show the heart?

Yes. The EverVita Low-Dose CT (LDCT) scan is used to screen the heart for early signs of disease. It can identify calcium or plaque buildup around the arteries—key indicators of heart disease risk. In addition, EverVita will offer Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography (CCTA), which provides a detailed 3D view of the coronary arteries for precise evaluation of blockages or narrowing.

How does EverVita differ from CT-based “full body scans”?

CT-based screenings rely on radiation and segmented imaging. EverVita’s MRI protocol provides a comprehensive, non-invasive full-body evaluation with higher soft-tissue accuracy and no radiation risk.

How much radiation exposure occurs during a Low-Dose CT (LDCT) scan?

Is MRI or CT better for tumor detection?

MRI is generally superior for whole-body screening due to its soft-tissue detail and absence of radiation. CT is still better for certain areas like the lungs, but MRI provides broader preventive coverage.

Is an LDCT scan safe?

Yes. The Evervita Low-Dose CT (LDCT) scan is FDA-approved and regulated for safety. What happens during an LDCT scan?

During the Low-Dose CT (LDCT) scan of the chest, you’ll lie on your back on a motorized table that moves through the CT scanner, while your head remains outside the machine. The room may feel slightly cool for equipment comfort.You’ll be asked to lie still and briefly hold your breath while images are taken. The technologist operates the scanner from an adjacent room and can both see and communicate with you throughout the procedure. The entire scan typically takes 10–15 minutes to complete.

What is a CT or LDCT scan, and how does it differ from an MRI?

CT (Computed Tomography) uses X-rays and computer processing to create detailed images of your body’s internal organs and structures. Unlike MRI, it involves ionizing radiation, which carries a small potential risk.A Low-Dose CT (LDCT) scan uses much less radiation than a standard CT and is FDA-approved and regulated for safety. LDCT is the gold standard for lung screening and is the CT imaging technique used by Evervita.

Who should not undergo a Low-Dose CT (LDCT) scan?

At Evervita, your health and safety are our top priorities. We do not recommend LDCT screening for individuals under the age of 35.If you have a current or past history of significant lung symptoms or conditions—such as a chronic cough, lung cancer, or prior chest radiation treatment—we recommend that you consult your primary care physician or specialist for appropriate evaluation and ongoing care.
